This experience begins with an introduction to the coconut, not just as a fruit but as a central part of Balinese life. You’ll learn about its deep significance in local culture, religion, ceremonies, and economy, as well as its many health benefits. The family shares these insights in a natural, relaxed way that makes you feel part of the tradition rather than just a guest.

Then the hands-on fun begins. You’ll start by learning how to open a coconut using only traditional tools — removing the husk by hand, cracking open the hard shell, and extracting the white flesh inside. From there, you’ll grind the flesh and squeeze it into rich coconut milk.

The process continues with slow cooking the milk over a wood-fueled traditional stove, a method that has been passed down for generations. As the milk cooks and the oil begins to separate, you’ll see firsthand how something so pure and useful is produced without any machines or chemicals.

At the end of the session, you’ll have made real, natural coconut oil using the old ways — and you can bring home a small bottle of your own batch. It’s a slow, calming, and beautiful process that gives you a deeper appreciation for something most of us use daily.
